To some of my family members, economic discussions are little more than hieroglyphics. Explaining how loose monetary policy drives up prices, drives down rates of return, and begets economic problems sounds abstract, distant, and unimportant to our daily lives. This can beget the erroneous perception that I may be unconcerned about my fellow countrymen. Nothing could be farther from the truth.
Inflicting injury upon the economy necessarily inflicts injury upon people. I support free markets precisely because I care about people. It has been out of my love for humanity that I became determined to study and learn economics. For my understanding of Austrian economics, I’ve gained nothing financially. But I have gained the satisfaction of knowing I’m advocating ideas that will help create the maximum number of benefits for the maximum number of persons.
